Crypto mining

A small Bitcoin miner is, from the van's point of view, an electric heater that happens to earn money. Sensa treats it as one. Add a Lucky Miner to your system and the Habitation dashboard gains a Crypto tab that shows what the miners are doing, what they are earning, and how much of your power they are taking, with the controls to run them by hand or leave them to the sun.

What the tab shows

The tab is one screen. Across the top is each miner with its speed and temperature, the heat they are putting into the van, and the earnings so far at today's price in your own currency. Below it, the power bar shows every leisure battery you have registered, with its voltage and charge, and a dial for the total draw.

A miner that is switched off at its relay, or is restarting, shows as exactly that and counts as zero in every figure, rather than dropping out of the sums. A miner that has got too hot stops itself and says Overheated, stopped, with a Clear overheat button once it has cooled.

Controls

The Controls panel has two tabs.

• Manual is the miners' own knobs: a restart button, and the frequency and core voltage sliders for each one.
• Autopilot hands the decision to Sensa, described below.

The master power cut

At the end of the power bar is a big red Master power cut. Hold it down to confirm, and every miner's power feed is cut at the relay. Hold it again and the feed is restored.

It only works on miners that have a relay channel assigned to them. On the Switching tab of Settings, set the channel's Device Type to the miner itself, picked by name. A miner without a channel cannot be cut from here, and the button says so.

Autopilot

The brief is simple: use the sun's surplus to earn, and never cook the hab. Switch Autopilot on and Sensa starts the miners when there is power to spare and stops them when there is not.

• Start above and Stop below are battery levels. A full battery is the surplus signal, so the miners start one at a time as the battery fills, and the last one started is the first one stopped.
• Solar per miner is how much sunshine each running miner needs to stay on. Once the battery is above your start level, though, dropping sun on its own does not stop them: a full battery is proof enough that there is power to spare.
• Max room temp and Room sensor are the ceiling. Pick the thermometer that tells you how the living space feels, and the miners stop when it gets there. Leave the sensor on Not monitored and temperature is not a reason to stop.
• Miners replace the heater switches your heater off while the miners run and puts it back afterwards. It is on to begin with, because a running miner is already a heater.

Your own switches always win. Turn a miner off yourself and Autopilot leaves it alone, and if you cut a miner's power at the relay while it is running, Autopilot stands down rather than fighting you. The status line under the switch says what it is doing and why.
