Security

Two instincts watch for something happening rather than a level drifting. Both fire on the moment it happens, and both raise a full alarm by default, because a possible break-in and a burst pipe are a different sort of problem to a tank that needs topping up.

If you have more than one sensor fitted, the alarm and the Log entry name which one fired.

The alarm clears itself when the sensor goes quiet. Movement stops, or a leak sensor dries out, and the alarm it raised goes with it. Before this, a knock lasting a minute and a half left an alarm re-sounding every five minutes for the rest of the afternoon, and clearing it by hand was the only way to stop it.

They are not the same colour, because they are not the same problem. A vibration alarm is amber: worth going out to look, but nothing is being damaged while you decide. A water leak is red, because something is.

Vibration does not fire when nothing has happened

The vibration instinct watches for the change, not the state. It does not go off when you switch it on, and it does not go off when your system restarts, even if the sensor happened to be reporting at the time. An alarm you did not cause is an alarm you learn to ignore.

Water is deliberately the other way round. Wet is a condition, not a moment, so if your system starts up and a leak sensor is already wet, it tells you. Staying quiet because it did not see the water arrive is not something a leak alarm should do.

Vibration detected

Movement picked up by a vibration sensor, which usually means somebody is interfering with the van, or it is being towed.

The alarm tells you which sensor fired and suggests checking the vehicle for signs of tampering.

It only sounds while the van is in the Sentry scene. A knock while you are aboard in Work or Movie is life, not an intrusion, so the alarm is armed only when you have left the van in Sentry. The Security tile still shows Detected or Clear whatever scene you are in, so you can always see what the sensor is picking up. An alarm raised in Sentry still clears itself if you switch scene before the sensor settles.

A leak is not treated this way. Water is doing damage whatever the van is being used for, so the leak alarm sounds in every scene.

How easily it trips

A vibration sensor has a sensitivity, running from 1, the most sensitive, to 21, the least. Open Settings, choose the Devices tab, expand the sensor's row, and set Sensitivity. If it is picking up ordinary movement as you drive, raise the number. If it misses somebody leaning on the van, lower it.

The sensor cannot tell Sensa what it is currently set to, so the box shows the last value set here. A blank box means it has never been set, which is not the same thing as being set to 21.

Settings: none on the instinct itself. Sensitivity is set on the sensor's own row, above. The alarm is armed by the Sentry scene.

Default: Alert.

You need: a vibration sensor, such as the Aqara Vibration Sensor, added over Zigbee.

Water leak detected

Moisture picked up by a leak sensor, which usually means a burst pipe, a failed joint, or water getting in from outside.

A leak sensor is worth putting where a leak would do the most damage before you noticed it: under the sink, beside the water pump, under the fridge, and in any locker carrying plumbing. The alarm names the sensor, which is what tells you where to look.

Settings: none.

Default: Alert.

You need: a water leak sensor, such as the Aqara Water Leak Sensor or the SONOFF Zigbee Water Leak Sensor, added over Zigbee.
