People

The People tab under Settings is where you say who lives in the van, and which phone belongs to whom. Each person gets a name, a photo, and the device that travels with them.

Right now this is about setting the record straight: the driver faces under the map come from here, and the presence and journey features being built next are all built on it.

Adding someone

At the bottom of the list is an add row. Type a name and the person is created. A name is the only thing you have to give.

• A photo. The picker on each row uploads a photo straight into your system's image library, the same library the switch and levelling pictures use. It is what shows on the driver buttons under the map, so it is worth adding.
• A phone or tracker. Pick from the devices your system can see reporting a position. This is the same list the GPS source setting offers, so the two can never disagree about what counts as a phone.

All of it works with no internet connection. That is deliberate: the record of who lives in your van belongs in your van.

People from your mySensa account

If your system has been online, the add row also offers the people on your mySensa account by name. Pick one and their name and photo are brought in for you.

Two things worth knowing:

• One person at a time. There is no bulk import, so nothing you have already set up is overwritten.
• Only the name and the photo come across. Any phone you have linked to that person stays exactly as you set it, because you assigned it on this box and we have no business changing it.

There is a button on each existing row that does the same thing to a person you already have, which is the tidy way to put a real name and face onto somebody your system created automatically.

If your van has never been online, the dropdown is simply not there and you add everyone by hand. That is a normal state, not a fault.

People your system adds for you

Whenever your system finds a device reporting a position that nobody owns, it creates a person for it, so a phone in the van is never anonymous. Rename them, give them a photo, or match them to a mySensa member, and it is the same person from then on.

Deleting a person whose device is still there simply brings them back. If you want them gone for good, remove the device.

What you will not see here

Sensa's own logins, including the support account we use when you ask us for help, are not people and are not offered as ones. They cannot be renamed here, and a phone cannot be linked to them.

Why the tab exists

On a Nomad Appliance or Enthusiast system you are not a Home Assistant administrator, so Home Assistant's own screen for this is out of reach. These are the very same records it would have created, managed from a screen you can actually get to. On a DIY install the tab works identically, and either screen shows the same people.
