Do you need an account?
No. Radar works fully signed out, with your preferences kept on your device. Sign in when you want your saved places and settings to follow you across devices.
Signed in, your category and source choices, units, currency, radius, last postcode, and vehicle profile are synced to your account, and your saved places and community contributions are tied to you.
Two other things ask you to sign in, and both are for somebody else's benefit rather than your own settings: keeping a location share somebody has sent you, so you do not have to find the code again, and saving a trip somebody is publishing, so you can find it again and be told when there is something new. Neither needs a Nomad van of your own. Opening a shared location or a shared trip needs no account at all, and never will.
Ways to sign in
- Sign in with your Sensa account: the same Sensa identity you use everywhere else. A new Sensa sign-in sets up your Radar and Sensa accounts together. A Radar account is a Sensa account, so there is no separate Radar password to remember or reset.
- Nomad: a Nomad campervan signs in with its licence.
Base versus Premium
Radar has two tiers: Base, which is free, and Premium.
Premium unlocks exactly five things:
- The vehicle profile: routing that uses your van's height, width, length, and weight, with fit checks and hazard and gradient avoidance. See Routing.
- Offline map packs: download an area to use without signal. In development, not available yet (see below).
- Google Places: extra place coverage where open data is thin.
- Premium map tiles: higher-detail and satellite map imagery.
- A higher saved-place cap: 1,000 instead of 100.
Everything else is free, permanently, including: searching every category across all the open data sources, worldwide search, live UK and French fuel prices, food-hygiene and NHS and MOT and library and toilet data, flood warnings, road hazards and active fire detections, A-to-B routing with turn-by-turn directions, your vehicle's fuel type and economy for cost estimates, and everything on the community map.
Some things need a Nomad campervan rather than a subscription. Tracking journey history, location sharing and FollowMe are recorded by the Nomad system in the vehicle, so they come with a Nomad van and are not something Premium can add. They cost nothing extra if you have one, and Premium does not include them if you do not.
How to get Premium
Premium is now on sale, and there is a free trial so you can try it first. There are four ways to have it:
- Subscribe, monthly or yearly, starting with a 7 day free trial. See below.
- Contribute to the community map. Get 10 contributions approved in a calendar month and Premium is free for the following month. See The community map.
- A Nomad campervan licence, which includes it. If you have a Nomad system there is nothing to buy.
- A grant from a Sensa administrator.
Subscribing, and the free trial
Open Premium in the app and choose Start free trial. On a phone, Premium is under the More tab; on a computer it is in the header, and it is in Settings under Account as well. That takes you to the Sensa shop, where you pick monthly or yearly and see the current price, including VAT.
Premium is tied to your Sensa account, so you need to be signed in before you start. If you are not, the shop asks you to sign in first.
Nobody should be caught out on day seven, so here is exactly how the trial works:
- We take your card details when you start, but you are not charged that day.
- Your first payment is 7 days later, at the price shown on the page.
- We email you 2 days before that first payment, as a reminder.
- You can cancel at any time in your Sensa account, under Subscriptions in the mySensa portal. Cancel during the trial and you are never charged at all.
The trial is once per account. If you have used it before, subscribing again starts a paid subscription straight away, and the page says so before you press anything.
Premium switches on as soon as you are back. When checkout finishes, the shop returns you to Radar and Radar picks up your new subscription there and then, so the Premium features are ready to use rather than turning up some hours later.
Offline maps
Offline map packs are a planned Premium feature that will arrive with the native mobile app. They are not available today on any platform. When they land, a downloaded pack will keep working offline for good.
