Light & dark mode

Radar comes in a light look and a dark look, and you choose which you see. It is free and needs no account.

Choosing your look

Open Settings, then Appearance, and pick one of:

  • Light: the bright look, all the time.
  • Dark: the dark look, all the time. Easier on the eyes at night and in the van after dark.
  • Auto: Radar follows sunrise and sunset where you are, so it is light through the day and switches to dark in the evening on its own.

Your choice takes effect straight away, with nothing to save. When you are signed in it follows you across your devices; signed out, it is remembered on the device you are using.

Auto, in a bit more detail

Auto works out day and night from the sun's position at your location, not from a light sensor, so it does not need any special permission and behaves the same on every device. It uses roughly where you are (from your last search or map position) to know when the sun rises and sets, and changes over at the right time for you.

The map follows too

When Radar is in its dark look, the map switches to a darker style that suits it, so the whole screen stays comfortable to read at night rather than a bright map glaring out of a dark page.

In your Nomad van

When Radar is shown inside your Nomad screens, it follows the van's own day and night setting, so it matches everything else on the dashboard without you setting it twice.
