Summary​

Radar Premium is now on sale, with a 7 day free trial. Until today the only ways to have it were a Nomad campervan, ten approved community contributions in a month, or a grant from us. You can now subscribe directly, monthly or yearly, and try it first without paying anything.

Premium, with a free trial​

Open Premium in the app and choose Start free trial. On a phone that is under the More tab; on a computer it is in the header, and it is in Settings under Account as well. That takes you to the Sensa shop, where you pick monthly or yearly and see the current price, including VAT.

Premium is tied to your Sensa account, so you need to be signed in before you start. If you are not, the shop asks you to sign in first.

Nobody should be caught out on day seven, so the terms sit next to the button rather than behind a link:

  • We take your card details when you start, but you are not charged that day.
  • Your first payment is 7 days later, at the price shown on the page.
  • We email you 2 days before that first payment, as a reminder.
  • You can cancel at any time in your Sensa account, under Subscriptions in the mySensa portal. Cancel during the trial and you are never charged at all.

The trial is once per account. If you have used it before, subscribing again starts a paid subscription straight away, and the page says so before you press anything.

Premium switches on as soon as you are back. When checkout finishes, the shop returns you to Radar and Radar picks up your new subscription there and then, rather than leaving you on the free tier for hours while it catches up.

Nothing about what Premium unlocks has changed, and nothing has moved behind it. It is still the same five things: the vehicle profile, offline map packs (still in development, on every platform), Google Places, higher-detail map tiles, and a larger saved-place cap. Everything else stays free permanently, including worldwide search, every open data source, and the whole community map.

The other ways to get Premium all still work. A Nomad campervan licence includes it, ten approved community contributions in a calendar month earns you the following month free, and a grant from a Sensa administrator is unchanged.

Faster searches in towns and cities​

Searching somewhere dense could take long enough that the connection dropped and the app appeared to give up on you. The work of merging results from every source at once, and spotting where two sources describe the same place, is now done a great deal more efficiently.

Results are unchanged. The same places are merged, in the same order, with the same details filled in from whichever source had them. Only the speed is different.

Getting back to the map on a computer​

There are no bottom tabs on a computer, so pages like Settings, Premium, Data sources and Saved places had no obvious way out and it was easy to end up bouncing between two of them. Every one of those pages now has a back arrow to the map.

Still to come​

Route planning still covers Great Britain only, on both plans. Places in Germany or Norway do not mean directions there.

Offline map packs remain a planned Premium feature and will arrive with the native mobile app. They are not available yet on any platform, and they are labelled as in development wherever Premium is described, including on the shop page.
